2015 Fall Workshop

We had a fantastic time in Hoisington, KS, at the Fall Workshop! We thank Jenny for being our hostess. We met October 13th and 14th, 2015, at the Hoisington First United Methodist Church.

Our workshop speaker was Linda Gillis - Who Takes Care of You?

You take care of everyone else. How you can take care of yourself.

About Linda:

I am a retired church office servant, a writer, speaker for conferences, events, and retreats, and advocate for those who work in the church office. I began writing seriously after winning the 2006 Guideposts Writer's Workshop and being published in "Guideposts" and "Angels on Earth" magazines. I have self-published three books, "The Donut Theory--Meditation and Inspiration for the Church Office," "Humble Beginnings--Daily Meditation Moments," and "More Humble Beginnings." My other passion is family and traveling to visit family and friends with my husband Glen.

What is Souly-4-You?

Souly-4-You by Linda Gillis is a ministry to inspire church support staff and other faith-based organizations to grow spiritually. It has expanded to include serving as a speaker/retreat leader for women’s organizations, Pastor’s wives, and Stephen Ministry groups.

  • A former church secretary with over twenty years working in faith based organizations.

  • Creative writer of inspirational and devotional material. Her first published work appeared in the August 2007 Guideposts magazine, after being awarded one of the twelve Guideposts Writer’s Workshop Contest prizes in 2006.

  • Author of The Donut Theory–Meditations and Inspiration for the Church Office and Humble Beginnings — Daily Moment Meditations, and in various magazines and anthologies.

  • Blogger – Linda says, “I had been writing my morning meditations in a journal for three years, and one morning it “dawned” on me that perhaps if I put them on a blog, I could give someone else a chance for a brief encounter with God. Daily Meditation Moments has been posted over nearly 900 times.

  • National and local speaker for conferences and events.

Devotions were by Pastor Rueben Lang’at, Hoisington First UMC. He spoke on Esther. Esther knew that she could make a difference through prayer. There is no fervency in our congregations because there is no prayer. Less praying results in more talking. God has blessed us for such a time as this. Rise up and do something for the kingdom.

Our Missions Project

The Prairie Godmother Funds provide grants to improve the health and well-being of Barton County women by addressing critical needs not met by other community resources. Recently they helped more than 100 single mothers with a ‘Build-a-Bag’ brunch. The bags were filled with items brought by donors such as shampoo, deodorant, pads/tampons, candles, or some personal item that a struggling single mom usually won’t ‘splurge’ on for herself. Items were bagged with a note for each recipient.

Business Meeting

Evaluations from out last workshop were gone over; Chapter and National dues were explained; 2016 Officers were installed; Correspondence sent, Newsletter, and prayer requests were shared. The spring 2016 Great Plains workshop will be cancelled because the Great Plains chapter is hosting the National PAUMCS Conference April 14-16 in Wichita, KS. Our fall workshop will be in October 2016 in Grand Island, NE, with Jackie Cook and LeeAnn Rowse hosting.

Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) were available at this workshop.
