2015 Spring Workshop

We had a fantastic time in Valley Center, KS, at the Spring Workshop! We thank Amy for being our hostess. We met March 10th and 11th, 2015, at Valley Center United Methodist Church.

Our workshops were:

*Healthy Congregations - Program

Officer, Katie Ross, came and taught us about this United Methodist Program developed to inspire intentional health ministry, called, 'Healthy Congregations.' It pertains to a person's Spiritual, Mental, Physical, and Social Health. Their ministry focus is, 'From a love of God, neighbor, and self, Healthy Congregations inspire, guide, and educate members of church and community to loves of health and wholeness.' Their website is www.healthfund.org

Katie may be contacted at kross@healthfund.org or at 800-369-7191.

Group listening to Katie.

* Massage Therapy - Lisa Santiago, LBSW, AAS, CMT, IAIM, taught us about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Tension Headaches common in secretarial jobs. Natural healthy remedies were discussed, massage strokes, along with tennis ball massage. We also made a still point inducer. Lisa answered many questions about specific problems anyone was having. She owns 'Total Concept' in Valley Center, KS.

*Spiritual Healthy Living -

Retired Rev. Elsie Crickard taught us about 'Spiritual Healthy Living.' Elsie challenged us to practice the discipline of prayer, reconciliation, attitude, and taking care of yourself. A bit of wisdom she shared with us is, 'Don't be afraid to be vulnerable in front of your enemies.' Elsie said it was good for us to ask our pastor as John Wesley asked, ‘How is it with your soul and how was your call was confirmed in the last 3 months?’ Give yourself a self-exam daily.

*Making a Healthy Snack – Nancy Gardner taught us many things about Nutrition.

‘The greatest wealth is health.’ Virgil

Nancy shared with us about My Plate.gov and making healthy eating choices. Next she shared the website on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuDp6v_oL34 and we exercised with one of the videos. We made ‘Fresh Sunny Salsa in a Bag’ and 'Whole Wheat English Muffins with yougart and fresh strawberries on top.' Recipes was shared for 'Orange Peel Bread' and 'Tuna Boats.'

*We stayed at the Motel 6

1075 Hopalong Cassidy Circle

Park City, KS 67147

*Devotions were by

Pastor Eric Rook, Valley Center UMC.

*Our Missions Project was a canned food collection that benefited the Food Pantry

in Valley Center, KS.

*Quilt Show A quilt show by the Valley Center quilters and a few brought by our PAUMCS members was displayed in the Sanctuary.

What beautiful work and amazing talent!

*Social bonding was strong at this workshop; we mixed up who we sat with; and we got to know most everybody! Great time had by all.

*Keeper of the Plains tour – Five of us went to the ‘Keeper of the Plains,’ Tuesday evening at 650 N. Seneca, Wichita, KS 67203 at 9:00 p.m. This is a 44-foot tall steel sculpture standing at the point where the Big and Little Arkansas rivers join together in downtown Wichita. It is sacred ground to the Native American people. The ‘Ring of Fire’ is lit for 15 minutes each evening and is free. Very impressive!

*Business Meeting – The By-Laws were updated, as well as members information; treasurer’s report, our new website

(www.paumcsgreatplains.com), Facebook page, nominations, and the upcoming 2016 National Conference that will be held in Wichita, KS. Our fall 2015 workshop will be in Hoisington, KS, with Jenny Landers hosting.
